Want to try curling?
The 2017/18 season finished in early April, but the new 2018/19 season begins in September.
For those looking to try curling, our local ice rink, Kinross Curling, will host several Come-And-Try sessions around the start of next season. More information will become available on the national Try Curling website: www.trycurling.com
Kinross Curling also offers practice ice (for individuals or groups) with reduced rates, and has qualified coaches available to help your skills develop. For new curlers, some of our experienced members may also be available to offer coaching or a practice buddy. Practice ice is available at various times depending upon day-to-day usage at the rink. For more information we recommend contacting the ice rink directly.

Interested in joining us?
This is the perfect opportunity to contact us about joining. Over the next few months our committee will be hard at work preparing for next season by recruiting members and organising fixtures before selecting the teams. If you hope to play regular fixtures as part of a set team (called a 'rink') please contact us as soon as possible, so that your name can be in contention for a place. Once the teams have been drawn, any remaining or new members will join our Pool membership to play on an ad-hoc basis as a substitute.
All new members get their first year's membership for free.
Pool (substitute) members do not play particular fixtures, but they are invaluable as replacements for any Rink (full) member who cannot play a particular game. You could be asked to substitute with weeks or hours notice, but you are under no obligation to help. If the game is prepaid (like the vast majority of our fixtures), the Pool player's assistance is rewarded with a free game. This type of membership is useful for beginners who want to build up their experience, for those on a budget, and for people with uncertain schedules who can't commit to regular fixtures.
Rink (full) members tell the Club Secretary (Alan Paterson) their playing intentions or availability for each competition during the spring. From his list, the summer break sees our Committee selects the Skips for each competition, who then take turns drawing available players into their teams. (For the 2017/18 season, this took place in late June).
To give our members more flexibility and a better chance of playing the amount of curling at times that suits them, we try to keep particular competitions to set days or times. For example:
- Fraser Cup is played on weekday evenings (starting at 17:45 or 18:00).
- Stewart Cup is played on weekday evenings (starting at 19:45 or 20:20).
- Johnson Cup is played on weekday evenings (at any of the above times).
- Reid Cup is played at weekends (starting at 10:00, 12:15, or 15:00).
- Grant Cup is played on Saturdays at 10:00.
- Friendlies are almost exclusively played at weekends (10:00, 12:15, or 15:00).
- Kinross Curling Trust (KCT) League fixtures are played on Wednesday evenings, once per month.
Both membership options (rink & pool) have their benefits, so whether you're a complete beginner, an international champion, or anything in-between, please feel free to contact us for further details.
New members get their first year's membership with us for free, while Juniors (under 21) also get discounted ice fees.
