OCCUPATION: Retired. Started as a chemist and ended up doing 35 years on several North Sea oil platforms. You get less for murder.
OTHER INTERESTS: Skiing, hillwalking. Lots of travelling now I am retired.
YEAR YOU STARTED CURLING: 1994.
JOINED FOSSOWAY BECAUSE: Shanghaied. Was asked if I wanted to try curling so went with my wife and some friends. Next thing was I was handed a Fossoway card and told I owed £15 for my subscription. Never looked back though and neither did my wife.
CURLING ACHIEVEMENTS: Have won all of the club competitions over the years. Played in the Gents mini tour once. Have won several curling weekends at Stranraer (everyone should try a curling weekend in Stranraer at least once).
FAVOURITE POSITION WITHIN A CURLING TEAM: Skip, as I enjoy the tactics of the game.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT CURLING: Good fun, good exercise, always good company. And the fact that it’s a sport where players are expected to, and do, call their own fouls.
WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND OTHERS TAKE UP THE SPORT: See above.
WHAT IS ON YOUR BUCKETLIST: See more of the planet. Win against a top player (my wife once beat Olympic gold medallist, Debbie Knox).
SHARE A FAVOURITE JOKE OR QUOTE (if you have one): What do you call a deer with no eyes? No idea. What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs? Still no idea.
